Summer Special Events at Roland Park Place
/in Lifestyle, RPP Stories /by Eleanor WeirEvery Wednesday night at Roland Park Place is concert night in our Arts and Education Center. This month features one of our resident’s jazz band and a special classical music gala featuring musicians from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Baltimore theater companies have many plays running this month! Trips to Everyman Theatre, Center Stage, and Arena Players will be happening this month. For these theater trips, residents don’t have to worry about parking in the city as we provide transportation. In addition to seeing plays in person, residents are able to watch a full-length opera from the comfort of their apartments every Saturday afternoon.
Even city dwellers like to escape to nature every so often. To spend some time in the great outdoors, residents are going to a strawberry festival, a sculpture garden, and a historic estate garden. For those who love to be on the water, residents will be able to take boat rides on the Chesapeake Bay this month.

Roland Park Place’s Guide to Spring in Baltimore
/in Lifestyle, RPP Stories /by Eleanor WeirThe oldest free festival in Baltimore is the Flower Mart at Mount Vernon Place. For 112 years, flower vendors have taken over the Washington Monument to help bring spring into your homes. The iconic Baltimore lemon stick is the signature treat that you must try. Local businesses will also be featured from artists to restaurants. This event happens on the last weekend of April, which falls on April 29th and April 30th this year.
Let’s Go O’s! An Oriole’s game is a must for everyone! Camden Yards is one of (if not the) best baseball stadiums in the US. There is not a bad seat in the house and the fans make coming to a game ten times more fun than watching it alone at home. If residents aren’t able to go to a game, our Pub plays all the Oriole baseball games, home and away.
For film lovers, the annual Maryland Film Festival is held a few neighborhoods down from Roland Park Place at the SNF Parkway Theatre. This historic movie theatre brings international and local films for those who love art films. Some of the exciting features will be a collection of short films by Baltimore artists and John Water’s pick of an underrated film that deserves our attention.
Our neighborhood art museum has been getting international attention for their newest exhibit. The Baltimore Museum of Art’s gallery guards have curated the exhibit, Guarding the Art, where the guards pick pieces and provide their commentary and analysis of them. Who better to guide us into art than the members of our community who protect them. Unpredictable spring weather means chilly and rainy days that can only be remedied by visiting the BMA.

/in Lifestyle, RPP Stories /by Becki BeesA Week of Art and Culture Roland Park Place
/in In The News, Lifestyle, RPP Stories /by Eleanor WeirArts and culture are at the heart of Roland Park Place. We are proud to be the home of residents who have made and continue to make an impact on the Baltimore art scene. Here at Roland Park Place, we foster artistic growth and education through our venues and services. These range from our large art studio to live music performances. Take a peek at a week in the life of one of our residents.
Monday:
After breakfast and reading the morning papers, I attend the Poetry Class at 10 a.m. led by the talented Gary Blauvelt. In this class, we read and discuss poetry ranging from Shakespeare to Frost.
Tuesday:
The new Joan Mitchell at the Baltimore Museum of Art opened this week, and Roland Park Place has arranged a trip to see it. With transportation provided by RPP, I don’t have to worry about parking in the city. It is a joy to see fine art with my friends and be able to discuss what we saw on the way back home.
Wednesday:
Every Wednesday night is a live music concert. I meet my friends for dinner at the Landing and after dinner, we head to the Arts and Education Center. This evening there will be a cellist and a pianist playing music composed by women.
Thursday:
There are usually two trips a week, and this Thursday evening we have a trip to see a new play at the Everyman Theatre. Many residents have memberships to local theatre companies, and when there is a new performance, there is an organized trip to see it. I was able to get my ticket just by signing up for the trip, and the Roland Park Place Event Office took care of everything.
Friday:
My next-door neighbor was chosen to display her watercolor works this month in our newly appointed art gallery. Each month there is a gallery opening party where the artist talks about their work on display and we all enjoy a glass of wine together.
Saturday:
I like to work on my drawing skills during the week at the new art studio. On Saturdays, I attend the drawing class taught by Eva Carson, a local artist. The class is for all skill levels, and I get individual feedback that has made me more confident in my abilities.
Sunday:
There is a new group forming to practice conversational Spanish. I know a little Spanish from my travels, but I want be more fluent. So many new groups are forming to share and teach our interests. Just last week, the poker club hosted a workshop on poker for beginners.
